To the Part That I Know

I often hear people calling my home of South Dakota “nothing more than a flyover state.” This project is a love letter to the beauty I see in South Dakota. Growing up here, I’ve come to love the square miles of endless cornfields and small towns that can be seen down just about any gravel road you take. The scenes that many simply pass by have more meaning to me now as I’m growing older and have moved from my childhood home.

These photos are from places important to my personal history: My parent’s acreage and the eastern side of the state where I grew up, my grandpa’s ranch on the Missouri River, and the places in between. Those who aren’t from the Midwest lack the appreciation for the simple sites, but to me, they reflect the beauty of where I’m from. My photos share the part of South Dakota that I know and love. When I look at these photos, I am home.
